The free Gantt chart Excel template that schedules itself.

Add your tasks, link them, and the plan maintains itself — dates move when something slips, the critical path recalculates, and progress rolls up on its own. It is a real project planner, and it runs inside the Microsoft Excel you already have.

What you get

A real project planner, in a file you already know how to open

It stays on your computer. Anyone you send it to can open it. Nothing to log into.

  • Dependencies that actually schedule

Link tasks once. Move one date and everything downstream moves with it — no dragging bars, no re-typing.

  • Critical path & float

See the chain that decides your finish date, and exactly how much room every other task has.

  • Hours to years

Seven views, one click apart — and hourly charts that schedule to the nearest whole minute.

  • Baselines & actuals

Compare the original plan, today's estimate and what really happened, side by side.

  • Resources & costs

Assign people, set each one's working calendar, and track budget in the same sheet.

  • Dashboard & export

One click to a dashboard, a web report, or a PDF for people who don't live in Excel.

Before you download

The six things people ask us first

Does it work on a Mac?
Yes. Microsoft Excel, on Windows or Mac. If you have Excel, you already have everything you need.
Do I need a subscription?
No. There is nothing to subscribe to, and nothing renews. The free version is free, and it stays that way.
What do I actually get for free?
A working Gantt chart planner — yours to download and keep. Choose the Daily planner or the Hourly one. There is no trial clock counting down in the corner.
Do I have to enable macros?
Yes. The automatic scheduling is real code, so the file arrives as an Excel macro-enabled workbook. Two ways to allow it are shown on the download page, with pictures.
Where does my project data go?
Nowhere. It is a file on your computer, like any other spreadsheet. No server holds it, no account controls it, and nobody can switch it off.
What if I outgrow the free version?
There are fuller editions when you want them. Nothing you have already built is lost when you move up, and nothing expires if you never do.

Your next project plan is two minutes away

Gantt Excel is a workbook. Download it, open it, and you have a working project plan in a few minutes — no account to create and nothing to learn first.
